Rebekah’s First Fish

Rebekah lived in the country on McDowell Creek.  There were many adventures to be had there.  One of them was her first fish!

It was understood that she’d have to dig her own worms and eat what she caught.  She was game. Her dad forgot to mention that it had to be a certain length too. So her adventure began … her dad helped her select a straight bendable stick. It was outfitted with line and hook, and worms were dug.
On the creek, Rebekah bobbed the baited hook in the shimmering pool.  No casting with a stick pole!  She peered into the clear waters with anticipation.  How long? It didn’t matter; she’d stay as long as she had too.

Her eyes got big! Could it be! Yes! A fish bit!  Rebekah could tell it was a monster!  She fought it to the shore with a triumphant grin.  In her exuberance she didn’t see her dad frown.

The fish had to be six inches to be a keeper.  This one looked suspiciously like 4 or 5 inches.  Good thing he actually measured it.  Rebekah’s dad had some amazing tricks and somehow he claimed that it STRETCHED to the six!
It was off to the cast iron skillet.  Rebekah had her first fish!  It was the most delicious fish she ever had.
