Jereme didn’t like living in the basement bedroom. He wanted to be up where the action was. Normally that would mean the first floor since there was no second story; however, the girls had the one bedroom and Jereme’s dad gave an emphatic ‘NO’ to giving Jereme Mom and Dad’s room. The only other possibility was a small attic area which would have to do.
His dad worked hard building a ladder to the small loft, sheet rocking it in, and putting the floor over the ceiling joists. Finally the room was ready and Jereme moved in. It was a great room, looking down on all his subjects, not to mention the fact that it was very difficult for his mom to navigate the ladder!
All went well until one day his dad heard a lot of racket up there, mostly hammering. This was like music to his dad’s ears, for he had spent many hours teaching Jereme about tools and how to build stuff. The music stopped when his dad climbed up to inspect the project.
“Jereme!” His dad bellowed. Jereme very coolly climbed up and said, “What, Dad?” His dad came unglued, “What do you mean ‘What?’? What in the world were you thinking when you cut this hole in the floor of your room?”
“That,” Jereme declared with a note of pride, ‘is my new garbage disposal.” Usually, after making this type of grand declaration, his logical arguments snowed Dad over pretty easily. but not this time; maybe Dad was getting smarter. Jereme was perplexed that his dad was still fuming and couldn’t understand why his dad insisted that they do repairs. To Jereme it was the best garbage disposal ever!
